Leora “Katan” Daigle Lopez Sonnier Benoit (12-30-2008)

Funeral services for Leora “Katan” Daigle Lopez Sonnier Benoit, 94, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Chuch in Jennings, with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Burial will be in Lacassine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., today, Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, with a rosary at 6 p.m. tonight in the funeral home chapel, and will continue from 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
“Katan” died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
She is survived by her children: Elaine Joyce LeJeune, Robert Lopez and wife, Alice, Loynita Ingalls and husband, Larry; one sister, “Dot” Begnaud; her grandchildren, Denise Lejeune, Carl LeJeune, Irwin LeJeune, Michael Lopez, Terry Lopez, Regina Collins, Linda Perron, Shelly Chisholm and Cherise Dardano; 24 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
“Katan” was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Noah Lopez; second husband Steven “Doc” Sonnier; third husband, Eddie Benoit; one son, Wayne Lopez; and eight brothers and sisters, Levi Daigle, Roy Daigle, Rose Crowl, Ethel Weaver, Della Landry, Anderson “Black” Daigle, John “Blanc” Daigle, and “Pete” Daigle.
The family would like to thank the many fine nurses and doctors at Jennings American Legion Hospital and Golden Age Nursing Home in Welsh for the wonderful help they have received in the last two months. Thank you also for the love and support from extended family members and friends.

Vester “Muz” Daniel Bell (12-30-2008)
Funeral services for Vester “Muz” Daniel Bell will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 in Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Jennings, with Pastor Carl M. Fontenot Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Arthur under the direction of King’s Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services in the church.
She died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Lake Arthur, she was a member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Jennings. She was also a member of the mission department and a stewardess. She was a former employee of Jeff Davis Metla (Headstart).
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Keysha Bell of Lake Arthur and Brenda Turner of Houston, TX; one son, Kenric “K.B.” Bell of Lake Arthur; three sisters, Marylene Turner, Oralene Robinson and Vetter Livingston, all of Lake Arthur; six grandchildren, Tory, Torrell, Kezric, Keshon, Shequille and Jayren; one great grandchild, Rhian; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dora Trahan LeBlanc (12-30-2008)

LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Trahan LeBlanc, 93, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating.
Burial will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery under direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur.
Funeral home visitation will be from 3-10 p.m., Monday and will continue from 8 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. LeBlanc died at 12:10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at her daughter’s residence in Henderson.
Mrs. LeBlanc was a native of Lyons Point in Acadia Parish. She was born on May 30, 1915. She was a resident of Lake Arthur since 1926 when her father sold his farm due to a recession. She married Ellis LeBlanc in 1934 and began her family. Mr. LeBlanc, who was an employee of Magnolia Oil and traveled to different sites, worked to raise their children. Mrs. LeBlanc began working at LaCour’s Department Store as a clerk in 1975 when Mr. LeBlanc passed away.
Through her life, she experienced many remarkable people and things. According to her, the most remarkable people were her family. She lived a very healthy life. Her secret to a long and healthy life was raising her family, her love for cooking, Cajun French dancing and simply living life to its fullest. In addition, she enjoyed watching the Altanta Braves baseball games, hand embroidering, sewing and painting. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Mrs. LeBlanc is survived by two children, Leroy L. LeBlanc of Lake Charles and Dorothy L. Wiltz of Henderson; one sister, Beatrice Comeaux of Lake Arthur; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcial and Azelia Fruge Trahan; her first husband, Ellis LeBlanc; her second husband, Alcee Dugas; two sons, Martial “Danny” LeBlanc and Richard Wayne LeBlanc; one granddaughter, Tammy M. Gotte; one sister, Hazel T. LaPoint; and two brothers, Oleaus “Fatty” Trahan and Joseph “Yankee” Trahan.
Pallbearers will be Ellis “Chance” LeBlanc, Michael Wayne LeBlanc, Sampson “Poncho” LeJeune, Craig A. Cortez, Jonathan W. Breaux and Daniel James Croker. Honorary pallbearers will be Debbie Bennett, Clay Chance LeBlanc, Glynn Price Jr., Charles Trahan, Marcial Trahan, Dylan Michael Daigle and Sammy LeJeune.

Enola Breaux (12-30-2008)

LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for Enola Breaux, 71, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur with Rev. Richard Doucet officiating.
Burial was held in Abshire Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continued from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Mrs. Breaux was born in Welsh and was the daughter of the late Offord and Agnes Daley. Mrs. Breaux was a homemaker who loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Abriel Martin (Carol) Duhon of Kinder, Ray (Debbie) Duhon of Silsby, Texas, Mitchell (Marie) Breaux of Sulphur, Michael Breaux of Lake Arthur, Mary Ann (Dale) Reed of Vinton, Jeanie (Timothy) Authement of Kinder, and Shirley Breaux of Lake Charles; stepchildren, Roy (Brenda) Duhon of Crowley and Jean (Earl) Istre of Leesville; brothers, James and Allen Daley both of Lake Arthur, Ray Daley of Jennings, Robert (Betty) Daley of Plaquemine, and Riley (Lennie) Daley of Carencro; one sister, Rosa Breaux of Lake Arthur; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; her first husband, Abraham Duhon; her second husband, Floyd Breaux; and her two sisters, Sis Cormier and Dorothy Reed.

Norace Paul Benoit (12-30-2008)

LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for Mr. Norace Paul Benoit, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating.
Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery under direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. today, Sunday, and will continue from 8 a.m., Monday until time of services.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, Sunday in the funeral home chapel.
Mr. Benoit died at 4:54 p.m., Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at his residence in Lake Arthur.
Mr. Benoit was born and raised in Gueydan and graduated from Gueydan High School. He married Ethel Istre, and they had eight children. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre, serving as a tank commander, and he employed his French-speaking skills as an interpreter on several occasions. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for meritorious services.
He owned and operated Benoit’s Exxon Station and Auto Parts for over 30 years. In addition, he owned and managed a grocery store alongside his gas station. Mr. Benoit provided entertainment for the local teens for many years by establishing a movie theatre, skating rink, and recreation center. Also, Mr. Benoit helped to build the former Goretti High School and served for a time as its PTO president. He was active in his community for most of his life.
In his later years, Mr. Benoit and his wife traveled throughout America and Canada. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and unique sense of humor. He was a charismatic man who contributed to all he knew, touching many lives along the way.
Survivors include his eight children, Mrs. Raymond (Brenda) Meaux of Huntsville, Texas, Mrs. Robert (Glenetta) Shuey of Jennings, Joshlyn Benoit of Lake Arthur, Mrs. Jeff (Beth) Oliver of New Iberia, Mrs. Todd (Monica) Brown of Lake Arthur, Sandy Benoit of Minneapolis, Minn., and Bryan Benoit of Lake Arthur; five sisters, Mildred LaPoint of Lake Arthur, Doris Sonnier of Lake Arthur, Clarice Baudoin of Lake Arthur, Joyce Sonnier of Huffman, Texas, and Lillie Mae Cormier of Lafayette; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Istre Benoit; his son, Garland Benoit; his granddaughter, Ashley Conner; two brothers, Earl and Lloyd Benoit; his sister, Annie Mae Broussard; his mother and father, Ada and Asa Benoit; and his son-in-law, Gary Conner.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Meaux, Jeremy Meaux, Jeffrey Meaux, Joshua Benoit, Korry Turner, Kobi Turner and Matthew Oliver.

George Allen Cart (12-30-2008)

Funeral services for Mr. George Allen Cart, 86, were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating.
Burial was in St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery in Mowata under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
Visitation was held from 4:30-8 p.m. on Friday and continued from 8 a.m. Saturday until the time of services on Saturday. A rosary, led by Mrs. Margie Dupuis, was recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.
Mr. Cart died at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans’ Home in Jennings.
Mr. Cart was a native of Iota and a resident of Jennings for 58 years. He was a graduate of Iota High School and was a retired wholesaler for retail sales. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Ruth (Anderson Jr.) Fontenot of Welsh; and two grandchildren, Heida Fontenot (Brandon) Mallett of Welsh and Allen “A.J.” Fontenot, also of Welsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Amenthe Miller Cart; his wife Elenora Hensgens Cart; and one son, George Cart Jr.

Ethel McGee Rampmaier (12-30-2008)

IOTA – Funeral services for Ethel McGee Rampmaier, 88, will be held at 2 p.m., today, Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, in Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Iota with Rev. David Green officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings.
Visitation was held from 1-9 p.m. on Saturday and will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of services today, Sunday.
Mrs. Rampmaier died at 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Wendy R. (John) Larive of Isabela, Puerto Rico, Janelle R. (Dean) LeJeune of Church Point; one son, Rick (Deborah) Rampmaier of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Blake (Emily) Rampmaier of Hong Kong, China; Ashley Larive of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mike Potia of Truth or Consequences, N.M. and Kerri P. Breaux of Egan; one great-granddaughter, Macie Breaux of Egan; one step-great-grandson, Aaron Richard of Egan; two step-grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) LeJeune of Church Point, Monique (Brad) Clarkson of Fulshear, Texas; and six step-great-grandchildren, Hayden LeJeune, Courtney LeJeune, Bryce LeJeune, Dustin Clarkson, Ethan Clarkson and Dylan Clarkson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Rampmaier; and her parents, Clennie and Martha Hetzel McGee.

Lena Opal Hayward Temple (12-30-2008)
Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Opal Hayward Temple, 94, will be held at 2 p.m., today, Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 in the Miguez Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Milliron officiating.
Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Funeral home visitation was held from 2:30-5 p.m. on Saturday and will continue from 8 a.m., today, Sunday, until the time of services.
Mrs. Temple died at 7 a.m., Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at her daughter’s residence in Lafayette.
Mrs. Temple was a native of Erie, Kan., and a resident of Jennings since 1956 moving here from Mt. Vernon, Ind. She was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Della) Bonnette of Lafayette and Mrs. Frank (Karen) Matte of Houston; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ula and Leona Hayward; her husband, Ralph Cleo Temple; and one son, Darrell Temple.

Evelyn Romero (12-30-2008)
Funeral services for Evelyn Romero, 87, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings with Father Charles McMillin officiating.
Burial will be in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., today, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 and will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Romero passed away on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Mrs. Romero was born in Mermentau to the late Leodis and Ella Verret Guidry. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her three daughters, Linda Faye Henderson of Orange, Texas, and Elaine Young and Yvonne Ray Swier, both of Jennings; one step-daughter, Shirline Louise Broussard of Sulphur, and one step-son, James Reed Romero of Mermentau Cove; one brother, Sidney Guidry of Warner Robin, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Richard and Lou Genia Benoit, both of Jennings; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Felix Romero; and two step-children, Amos Romero and Mary Benoit.
