It’s a tragically familiar tale: One young child finds a loaded, unsecured gun and takes it in his or her hands. A shot is fired and a child is killed.
That scenario once again took place this past weekend, this time in Monroe County, Mississippi. Two siblings, a boy age 9 and a girl age 13, were together in their home when they began arguing over a video game controller. The boy grabbed a handgun, which was kept in a nightstand next to a bed, and shot the sister in the back of the head, killing her.
