Members of Our Savior’s Church have been preparing for the Eggdrop Eggstravaganza by placing candy in thousands of plastics eggs to be used at the event, which will take place this Saturday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at 1206 E. Academy Avenue in Jennings.

Library to host basic sign language class

If you’ve ever wanted to broaden your communication skills beyond verbal communication, there is an opportunity in the parish to do just that.

The Jeff Davis Parish Library will be hosting a class on basic sign language Thursday at 5:30 p.m. as part of its series of R&R classes.

Carla Young, an educator at Jennings Elementary, will teach the class.

Lake Arthur Housing Authority has clean 2017 audit

LAKE ARTHUR – No errors were found in the housing authority’s 2016-2017 audit here, which was released by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office (LLAO) Monday.

The audit which details the housing authority’s finances for the year between Oct. 1, 2016, and Sep. 30 2017, found no errors in accounting. Because of slight increases in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds, and despite of slightly lower rental revenues for the year, the housing authority shows a healthy financial outlook for the department, which operates low-income housing for the town.

Twenty years ago, when both children were enthusiastic about hunting Easter eggs, I dressed them in matching Kelly Kids outfits with their names embroidered above bunny motifs.

I have to say, they were precious in blue-andwhite seersucker with ribbon bedecked Easter baskets

Of course, the daughter stayed precious longer, able to scour the hills and dales for eggs without looking like a chicken farmer.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The nation’s most restrictive abortion law is headed for a showdown before a federal judge only hours after it was signed by Mississippi’s governor.

U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves late Monday scheduled arguments Tuesday morning over whether he should immediately block the law after a request by the state’s only abortion clinic and a physician who works there.

Brassell Honored

Kinzie Brassell was honored on March 15 at a Jefferson Davis Parish awards banquet for being chosen the 2017-2018 Elementary Jeff Davis Parish Student of the Year. She is 11 years old and a fifth grade student at Lacassine High School. She is the daughter of Johnnie and Mattie Brassell of Iowa.

LSU finishes season in NIT Second Round

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Utes scored 30 first quarter points, hitting 12-of-17 field goals that propelled the Utes to a 95-71 win over LSU in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament at the Jon Huntsman Center Monday night.

Utah, 20-11, will meet the winner of the St. Mary’s-Washington game on Wednesday night for the right to go to the NIT semifinals in New York City.

LSU concludes its first season under Coach Will Wade with an 18-15 record as he became the second rookie coach at LSU to take a team to post-season play in school history.
