Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnye Rae Fontenot, 87, of Jennings will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Todd Schumacher officiating. Visitation for Mrs. Fontenot will begin Friday, March 16, at 4 p.m. and will continue until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at 8 a.m. until time of service.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Fontenot was born in Jennings to Carmen and Myrtle Fern Hart. She remained a resident of Jennings all her life. She passed away March 15, 2018, in Jennings American Hospital.

It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Woodrow “Ti” Richard announces his passing from this life on March 15, 2018, at the age of 69.

Funeral services honoring Woodrow “Ti”’s life will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 10 a.m., with Don Gott officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning on Friday, March 16, from 3:30-9 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, March 17, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral service.

Graphic video shown in trial of nightclub shooter’s widow

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Jurors in the trial of the wife of the man who shot and killed 49 people inside a Florida nightclub watched graphic videos of the massacre Thursday.

The video shown in federal court included footage of Noor Salman’s husband, Omar Mateen, as he stalked the nightclub, spraying bullets.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Salman shielded her face from the graphic content when prosecutors showed it to the jury.

US says Russia hacked energy grid, punishes 19

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pushing back harder on Russia, the Trump administration accused Moscow on Thursday of a concerted hacking operation targeting the U.S. energy grid, aviation systems and other infrastructure, and also imposed sanctions on Russians for alleged interference in the 2016 election.

Man gets 30 years for road rage killing of ex-NFL player

GRETNA (AP) — The man convicted of manslaughter in the 2016 road rage shooting death of former NFL running back Joe McKnight was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday.

Ronald Gasser, 56, had faced up to 40 years in prison. Defense lawyers argued that Gasser fired in selfdefense when McKnight walked up to his car following a 5-mile confrontation that began on a bridge spanning the Mississippi River in New Orleans and ended with gunfire in neighboring Jefferson Parish.

LAKE ARTHUR – Jamara Levy wowed basketball fans all over the state with her quickness, lightning fast ability to get to the rim and all out hustle in leading the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers to a Class 2-A State Runner-Up finish in 2018. However, the McNeese State commit found out she has one game left to play before her high school basketball career is over. Levy was selected to play in the LHSCA All-Star Game held at Bossier Parish Community College this Saturday at 1 p.m. featuring the best Louisiana high school players from all classifications.

Girl Scouts to hold fundraiser

This year the Easter Bunny’s job will be a little easier in Jeff Davis Parish thanks to Girl Scouts Troop 72.

The girls will be filling plastic eggs and hiding them in yards across Welsh, Jennings and Lake Arthur as part of their Operation Easter Egg Drop to raise money for their upcoming trip to New York in June.

Troop Leader Kim Myers said the event will take some of the hassle out of Easter egg hunts.
