Dumped tires the latest report of parish littering

Jeff Davis deputies were called to check on an early morning report of tires dumped in a ditch and on a roadway Tuesday, March 13.

Deputies discovered about 30 tires in various conditions discarded about a quarter mile east of the Lauderdale highway on Leonard Road. Deputies contacted the police jury, which later removed the tires.

Randy Ringuet, parish road administrator for the Jeff Davis Parish police jury, said dumping tires like this causes unnecessary trouble.

Jeff Davis Parish Library to host art classes

The Jeff Davis Parish Library will be hosting two tweens and teens art classes. The first will held Wednesday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. and the second will be held April 12 at the same time.

Iris Holland, secretary and organizer of several adult classes taught at the library, said these classes have been frequently requested.

“I listened to people in the community’s requests and was able to ask if we could set something up,” she said. I got it cleared and was able to organize it.”

Jennings man jailed for drug trafficking

A Jennings man was arrested Wednesday after witnesses claimed he was trafficking drugs out of his home.

Shannon Levi, 38, of 406 Syers Street was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

Clean up after yourselves

Earlier this week, dozens of tires were dumped along Leonard Road, off US 190 east of Lauderdale Highway in Jeff Davis Parish.

That’s a pretty upsetting event for a parish that has two areas vying for the title of the state’s cleanest city.

Both Jennings and Elton are in the competition and have already made inroads to make their areas as neat, beautiful and clean as possible ahead of the April 10 contest date.

For Elton, getting ready for the contest means pruning town shrubbery and making sure everything looks just right.

Louisiana legislature needs skin in the game

The Louisiana Legislature just completed a “do nothing” session that proved to be a stalemate towards solving the state’s financial crisis. A new regular session has begun with few signs that anything substantive will come about. By law, no new tax matters can be considered in this even numbered year. So what’s the problem in getting some cooperative effort?

Attorney’s help may be necessary in court judgment

Tennis Dogs show well against Teurlings

The Jennings High Lady Bulldog Tennis team blasted the Teurlings Rebels this week, while the Bulldogs finished with a 3-3 tie with their counterparts on the courts. Both the Dogs and Lady Dogs had busy weeks, playing 4 matches in 5 days.

“I feel as a whole we are playing a lot more relaxed and confident in a lot of areas,” said Jennings Head Coach Jared Lavergne. “We still have a few more difficult squads to face going forward, but the momentum we are building looks to be in our favor. We had some very important wins in this Teurlings match.”

LSU holds on for 84-76 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in NIT

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Duop Reath shot 10 of 14 from the field and finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to help LSU beat Louisiana-Lafayette 84-76 on Wednesday night in the first round of the NIT.

Brandon Sampson scored 18 points, Skylar Mays added 11 and Tremont Waters had nine points with seven assists for LSU.

Marcus Stroman hit a jumper with 1:39 to play that capped an 11-1 run and pulled ULL, which trailed by as many as 14 points early in the second half, within one. LSU (18-14) hit 9 of 13 free throws from there to seal it.

Hard work still gets the job done

Patience is a virtue and it’s one of the things that ma ybe the most difficult in life to master when a person is used to something being consistent in the way they think. When new jobs, ideas, programs or companies start from the ground up, employees hired to run those operations often struggle with having to go from established success to starting completely over. It’s something that can get the best of people or it can make them grow into better leaders and teachers.
