Cardinals offensive coordinator gone after blowout loss

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy a day after the team was blown out at home by the Denver Broncos on national television.

First-year head coach Steve Wilks said Friday that quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich will take over the job for a club that is 1-6, the worst record in the league.

“Seven weeks into the season, based off where we were from the standpoint of production on the offensive side of the ball, I felt the need to make a change, and that’s what I did,” Wilks said at a news conference.

Torrell Levias, Lake Arthur: Levias had a monster night on the defensive side of the ball for the Tigers, as he finished with 17 total tackles to lead the game in LA’s loss to Welsh.

Tigers muscle past Westlake 55-42

The Lake Arthur Tigers took on the Westlake Rams Friday in their final nondistrict game of the season. The Tigers were able to muscle past Westlake thanks to an amazing defensive effort in the second half, as they forced the Rams to turn the ball over four straight times. The final score was 55-42. Lake Arthur rises to 6-2 on the season with the win.

Local girl’s drawing chosen for published book

A Jennings Elementary student has drawn her way into a published book.

Eleven-year-old Jenna Morvant, daughter of Brian and Mickey Morvant, has enjoyed drawing for fun from a young age.

Author Mick Strawn, along with coauthor Blake Best, has written a book named “Behind the Screams: The Dream Master Revealed,” which is a spin-off from the movie titled “Nightmare on Elm Street - Part 4: The Dream Master.”

CASA coordinators address Rotary Club

Robert was an unassuming guy. He and his wife, Mary, were parents to two daughters appropriately named Roberta and Maria. His demise at an early age, around 50, was a shock and a disappointment as early death always is. We were co-workers, he and I, from 1975 until his death. It is interesting how we are reminded of those who have passed on. In this case I thought of him as a tragic soul who never seemed on top of his existence. He seemed always to be weighed down by something.

Brennon and Heather LaBouve of Jennings announce the birth of their son, Collin Joseph, born Aug. 13, 2018.

Collin weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces at birth and was 20 inches long. He was welcomed home by his siblings, William, Parker and Annie.

Maternal grandparents are Loretta Smith and the late Keith Darbonne, both of Jennings. Paternal grandparents are Bobby and Sherree LaBouve of Hathaway.

Be prepared before heading to the polls

Election Day gives voters throughout the United States a chance to participate in their government. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries.

Luckily, if you don’t feel like waiting in a line Nov. 6, you can cast your ballot early. Except for Sundays, parish residents can visit the Registrar of Voters office in Jennings from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Oct. 23-30 to make their votes count.
