Ronald “Ronnie” Robicheaux, 82, of Welsh passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.

The family will welcome friends Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, from 3-9 p.m., with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday beginning at 8 a.m.

Funeral services will be led by Father Alan Trouille at Our Lady of Seven Dolors beginning at 11 a.m.

Ronnie will be laid to rest in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Hattie Mae Monroe-Simien

Funeral services for Hattie Mae Monroe-Simien, 75, of Jennings were held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 N. State Street in Jennings, with Reverend Edward Alexander, Jr., officiting.

Visitation with family and friends was held from 8 a.m. until time of the funeral.

Burial was in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary.

Louisiana sheriff’s deputy arrested as part of probe

FRANKLIN (AP) — A Louisiana sheriff’s deputy is in custody following his arrest as part of an attempted murder investigation.

WAFB-TV reports 20-year-old Treyvon Burrell was arrested Thursday on two counts — being principal to attempted second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith says the arrest was the result of an investigation into an incident in Thibodeaux. Further details were not immediately released.

It was unknown if Burrell has an attorney.

At 100 years old, the only thing Army veteran Wallace Berwick is concerned with is casting a line into the water. The oldest resident at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home, Berwick enjoys daily trips to the campus pond and is willing to give anyone a few tips on how to reel in the big one.

Born Oct. 14, 1919, in Orange, Texas, Berwick has lived longer than some can only dream. He has seen many changes throughout the years and, for him, his 100th birthday was just another day to him.

Trump touts Rispone at Monroe rally

MONROE — It was a “Grand Old Party” for gubernatorial candidate Eddie Rispone Wednesday night at the Monroe Civic Center.

President Donald J. Trump held a “Keep American Great!” rally complete with rock concert-like blaring music while bringing in plenty of Republican firepower to boost Rispone’s efforts to unseat incumbent Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards in the Nov. 16 runoff election.

Edwards appears at GSU, calls Republican candidate ‘a danger’

GRAMBLING — Gov. John Bel Edwards on Thursday accused Republican challenger Eddie Rispone of being a clear and present danger to Grambling State University.

“You have every right to believe he presents a real and imminent threat to Grambling State University,” Edwards told a standing-room-only audience of more than 200 students and faculty gathered at the Favrot Student Union.

Edwards, the South’s only Democratic governor, faces Rispone in the Nov. 16 general election.

Big plays lift Bulldogs over Westlake

The Jennings Bulldogs came out on top in a rivalry match-up against the Westlake Rams on Friday night. Big plays and a stifling defense helped the Bulldogs improve to .500 to close out the season strong going into the playoffs. Westlake would take a share of the district title with a win, but the Bulldogs had other ideas.

On the first drive of the night, Westlake looked unstoppable as they took the ball into the end zone in eight plays while covering 64 yards in 4:10.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — If the increasingly healthy New Orleans Saints perform as well in the second half of their season as the first, they’ll win a franchise record 14 regular season games.

“I would take it,” Saints quarterback Drew Brees said. “But we’ve got a lot of football left. I’m excited to play these games because I want to see how good this team can be. I don’t think we’ve reached our potential yet.”
