Russia passes bill allowing Putin to stay in power past 2024

MOSCOW (AP) The Russian parliament approved a sweeping constitutional reform in the third and final reading Wednesday, a move that will allow President Vladimir Putin to stay in power for another 12 years after his current term ends in 2024.

NEW YORK (AP) Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault, a sight the Hollywood mogul’s multitude of accusers thought they would never see.

Lady Tiger bats, strong pitching lead them to 13-7 win over JHS

The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers upped their season record to 5-1 on the softball diamond Tuesday by knocking off the Jennings Lady Bulldogs by a final of 13-7. Lake Arthur�s Miya Breaux earned the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers by firing 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while striking out 11 Jennings hitters. Breaux scattered three hits and walked three to allow the three runs she gave up. Abbie Thibodeaux came on late in the game and recorded the last two outs of the seventh inning, but gave up four runs to Jennings before she could slam the door.

Cardinals walk through Gueydan 9-6

The Lacassine Cardinals knocked off the Gueydan Bears in a non-district baseball clash Tuesday evening at Legion Field in Jennings by a final of 9-6. The Cardinals only totaled five hits for their nine runs, but benefited from 12 Gueydan walks in the victory.

Texas Southern beats Grambling 75-62 in SWAC tourney

HOUSTON (AP) � Yahuza Rasas had 16 points and 13 rebounds and third-seeded Texas Southern never trailed in beating sixth-seeded Grambling 75-62 in Tuesday night�s Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

LSU explodes offense in run-rule of South Alabama

BATON ROUGE � The No. 5/4 LSU softball team defeated the South Alabama Jaguars 11-1 in five innings in a midweek match up Tuesday night in Tiger Park. The Tigers move to 21-3 on the season while South Alabama falls 8-17 on the year.

City accepts drainage project bid
