Brooks, Boston help Kentucky beat LSU 82-69, end 3-game skid

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Keion Brooks Jr. had 13 of his seasonhigh 15 points in the first half, Brandon Boston Jr. added 13 of his 18 points in the second half, and Kentucky trailed for just 15 seconds in its 82-69 win over LSU 82-69 on Saturday night to snap a three-game skid.

ELTON - The town of Elton hasn’t had much to cheer about since the beginning of August due to a number of things such as the cancellation of football season and an outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. The town’s beloved football program dates back to the 1960’s, and has been almost as consistent to the farming community as the rice it has always produced. However, with all of the adversity in the past year, the Elton Indians basketball team has been a ray of hope for the small town.

CONFEDERATE STATUE IN LOUISIANA DAMAGED, NOSE MISSING

LAFAYETTE (AP) — A monument of a Confederate general in Louisiana was damaged, with several holes punctured from its head to jaw and half of its nose taken off and missing.

It’s not clear when the damage happened on Confederate Gen. Alfred Mouton statue in Lafayette. It was first noticed Tuesday night but The DailyAdvertiser reports authorities were unaware when reporters asked about it. Lafayette police are now looking into it, KLFY-TV reported.

LOUISIANA CLOSING SOME SHRIMPING AREAS ON SUNDAY

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana is closing some areas to shrimping so large numbers of white shrimp found there can grow to marketable size, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release Thursday. Areas being closed include Lake Pontchartrain and several nearby waters, as well as outside waters between Caillou Boca and Freshwater Bayou CanaL

The area from the Texas state line to Freshwater Bayou Canal will remain open. So will the open waters of Breton and Chandeleur Sound and outside waters from there to Caillou Boca.
