LAFAYETTE (AP) — Ten Louisiana residents are accused of collecting about $6,000 each by faking applications for disaster benefits for car damage after floods in August 2016.
WASHINGTON – Last week the president signed into law bipartisan legislation, the Ensuring Innovation Act, introduced by U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Tina Smith (D-MN), and Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS) to help lower prescription drug prices. The legislation will provide clarity for drug exclusivity to prevent awarding market exclusivity to products that do not represent true innovation and unduly delay cheaper generics from entering the market.
Clara Alice Low Welch, 78, born to Asa Zenas Low and Mary Lou Garrett Low on Oct. 25, 1942, in Jennings, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021, in Houston, Texas.

DOYLE – The No. 10 Lake Arthur Lady Tigers had their hopes of advancing to the Fast Pitch 56 Tournament by a late rally by No. 2 Doyle. Leading 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Doyle scored five runs in the fifth and then three in the sixth to take a 9-4 quater final win over Lake Arthur.
Saturday marked the end of the high school baseball season, however all four Jeff Davis Parish teams saw their names appear when the LHSAA released playoff brackets on Sunday. Jennings High and Welsh High both earned Top-10 bids in their respective classes, while Lake Arthur High and Lacassine High were both inside the Top- 20. Playoff games began as early as Monday, with the Hounds and Tigers scheduled to kick-off their quest for Sulphur on that day, while the Bulldogs and Cardinals are set for first round play this afternoon.
Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, Ralph Reed of Jennings (at far right) ran one mile per hour over a 48-hour period to raise awareness of suicide prevention and raise money to benefit the Acadiana chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Each time he ran a mile, no matter the time of day or night, friends, relatives and supporters joined him on his run, which he completed between the campuses of Sowela and Jennings High School.
