Woman, 20, accused of soliciting teens to kill ex’s new man

COVINGTON (AP) — A 20-year-old Louisiana woman is accused of trying to get four teenagers to kill her former girlfriend’s boyfriend, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

A charge of soliciting murder was added on Monday to lesser charges brought earlier against Mykia Tyson, of the Covington area, a news release said.

The sheriff’s office said Delester Magee, 18, decided at the last minute against carrying out the plan but did shoot multiple rounds into the house in Lacombe where Tyson had driven him and three juveniles on June 5.

‘A part of this legacy’

Most scholarship recipients don’t get the chance to meet the benefactor behind the award.

Local Boisture Scholarship recipient Morgan Futch, 18, of Jennings, was able to do just that this week when she met with Dick Boisture and his daughter, as well as members of the foundation handling the scholarship.

“I feel so honored to be able to meet Mr. Boisture and be a part of this legacy,” Futch said.

Futch will be attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and majoring in speech pathology.

Local man arrested after high-speed pursuit through city

A Jennings man is currently in custody after leading authorities on a short pursuit through the city.

On Wednesday, Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies attempted to stop a truck for traffic violation on West Willis Street, said JDSO Chief Deputy Chris Ivey.

“The driver initially began to slow and pull over then accelerated and fled on South Cutting at speeds over 80 miles per hour,” he said. “The pursuit ended on Penny Street and West G.C. Cheney Street, after the driver threw several bags of contraband out the window of the vehicle as he was fleeing.”

JDP Arts Council seeking new members

Jeff Davis Parish Arts Council is currently seeking members for fiscal year 2021-2022.

“The JDP Arts Council needs help from the community in continuing their reputation as one of the foremost arts councils in the state of Louisiana,” said Director Tesha Onellion.

Throughout the year JDP Arts Council offers different events for people of all ages.
