Welsh store robbery results in pursuit

WELSH — A Slidell man led police on a pursuit all the way to Baton Rouge Sunday after robbing a local convenience store.

Devon Dominque, 31, of Slidell, was arrested in Baton Rouge Sunday and charged with simple robbery.

Welsh Police Department Chief Marcus Crochet said the robbery took place Sunday afternoon at the Stuckey’s Exxon on North Adams Street.

Local legislators named MVPs

Dist. 37 State Representative Troy Romero and Dist. 25 State Senator Mark Abraham were recently named the state’s most valuable legislators when it comes to supporting businesses.

The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) released its 2021 Legislative Scorecard, highlighting legislators inside the state capitol who supported probusiness legislation in this year’s regular session.

Voter registration deadline approaching

The deadline to vote in the fall election is approaching and voters are asked to sign up before it’s too late.

Jeff Davis Registrar of Voters (ROV) Joann Blair would like to remind voters that the last day to register to vote or update voter records for the Nov. 13 election is Wednesday, Oct. 13. The last day to register online at www. geauxvote.com is Saturday, Oct. 23.

Astros dismiss sign-stealing implications by Sox pitcher

CHICAGO (AP) — The Houston Astros found themselves in familiar territory Monday, brushing aside comments by Chicago White Sox reliever Ryan Tepera after he implied they stole signs while winning the first two games of the AL Division Series in their ballpark.

“He can say what he wants to say,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. “I had never even heard his name before we played the White Sox. I’m not bothered by it. Most of my life, they’ve been talking stuff on me anyway. Let them talk.”

Toney apologizes for ejection in loss to Dallas Cowboys

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Giants rookie receiver Kadarius Toney had his best game of his short NFL career, and had to apologize for it.

The Giants had no problem with his 10 catches for 189 yards in the 44-20 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday.

Getting kicked out of the game in the fourth quarter for punching Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee didn’t sit well with coach Joe Judge. He had some choice words for the 20th overall pick in the draft as he left the field.

Kamara’s dynamism helps Saints passing game get into a flow

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Saints got back to deploying versatile running back Alvin Kamara in the passing game and also got back to winning.

Kamara’s touchdowns rushing and receiving, not to mention his 123 yards from scrimmage in Sunday’s 33-22 victory over Washington, helped New Orleans cross the 30-point threshold for the first time since Week 1.

“Any time I’m catching the ball, I love it,” Kamara said. “It adds an aspect to our offense.”

A Mass of Christian burial for Wilbert “Bert” Ardoin will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings today, Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at 10 a.m., with Father Trey Angé officiating.
