LAKE ARTHUR – For the past four basketball seasons, Lake Arthur guard Vivian Sketoe has been quite a presence on the hardwood for the highly successful Lady Tigers. She has appeared in a trio of state tournaments and even helped bring home a Class 2A state title in 2021. On paper it seems as though she has had a great and full career. She’s been named to multiple All-District, All-Parish and even All-State teams and even hit the 1,000-point milestone in just her sophomore season. However, this sharp-shooting young lady still has two seasons of high school basketball still to play. On top of that, she’s a cheerleader on one of the best cheer squads around, runs track and even crosscountry, all while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA for her entire time as a student. Through all of her numerous activities, sports and other accomplishments, it’s no secret when talking to her to see that the game of basketball is what makes this 16-year old truly happy.

However, recent Lacassine graduate, Isabella Hardy, strategically participated in an ambitious schedule with remarkable success. In her senior year alone, Hardy participated in basketball, tennis, and track, while holding positions as cross-country manager, FFA Chapter President, FFA Area Treasurer, 4-H President, and French Club President, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA average and graduating as valedictorian of the LHS class of 2022.

Welsh’s Mallett first to ever play college softball

WELSH – Throughout her career at Welsh High School, Emmalee Mallett has been through quite a few firsts in school history. She was a member of the first Lady Hounds’ softball team that hosted a playoff game, played on the school’s first volleyball team and became the first Welsh player to ever hit a grand slam. However, it was another first that made her eyes sparkle when looking back on her time at the school. Mallett became the first ever Welsh player to sign a college softball scholarship by inking with Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) going into her senior year on the diamond. She explained it was a goal of hers to reach this pinnacle after beginning to play travel ball in the Lafayette area with the team LA Glory led by Harley Lanthier. Unlike many other sports where players are primarily seen with their high school squads, softball concentrates on seeing players in the summer and fall.
