Anacoco bats too much for Lacassine

LEESVILLE – The Lacassine Cardinals season came to an end on Monday when they got popped by the No. 2-ranked Anacoco Indians by a final of 11-1. The Cards gave Anacoco all they could handle for the first three-and-a-half innings of play, but a six run outburst eventually blew the game away. The Indians scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth to complete the 10-run rule and will advance to the Regional Round of the Class B Playoffs. The Indians scored two runs in the second and third innings, two coming on a tape measure shot by pitcher Drew Tebbe. Anacoco would then pour on the runs in the fourth with their six runs.

Tigers End Season 19-12

The Lake Arthur Tigers traveled up to Mangham this past weekend to take on the Dragons in a best-of-three series in the Class 2A regional round. The Tigers dropped both games to the hosting Dragons to end their season at 19-12. Check Jennings Daily News for full recaps in Wednesday’s printed edition. MIDLAND – The Lacassine Cardinals (LHS) and Lady Cardinals took home Regional runner-up finishes here at the Class B Region 3 Track Meet. Both Lacassine and Hathaway (HHS) had several individuals and relay teams qualify for the state meet to be held at LSU next week.

BATON ROUGE – The Lake Arthur (LA) and Welsh (WHS) track teams made their way to Episcopal High School this week for the Region 2 Track Meet after seeing several members of each boys’ and girls’ teams make their way through the district trials.

Bengals take LSU receiver Chase with fifth overall pick

CINCINNATI (AP) — Ja’Marr Chase didn’t know if former LSU teammate Joe Burrow was being serious when the quarterback started telling him the Cincinnati Bengals planned to reunite the pair in the NFL. Chase, the star LSU wide receiver chosen by the Bengals with the fifth overall pick in the NFL draft, said he thought it might actually happen when Burrow texted him Thursday morning and told him to pack his bags.

No. 10 Bulldogs slip past Union Parish 2-1 in bi-district win

The No. 10 Jennings Baseball team found out that rankings don’t mean much in the playoffs. The visiting No. 23 Union Parish Farmers made Jennings work hard for their win. The game was tied 1-1 in the middle of the sixth inning before Will Monic scored on an Ethan Mack sacrifice fly to give Jennings a 2-1 win. Senior Pitcher Ian Mullen would go the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs. Mullen would go all seven innings on only 103 pitches, allowed only one run on four hits and struck out five.

STANLEY – The Lacassine Cardinals made school history on Tuesday after reviving their baseball program a mere four seasons ago by knocking off No. 15 Stanley 2-1 for the program’s first ever playoff win. The No. 18-seeded Cardinals trailed most of the entire contest 1-0, but rallied late for a run in the sixth and the deciding score in the top of the seventh to capture their monumental victory. With the win, Lacassine improved their overall mark to 10-11 and will travel to face No. 2 Anacoco on Monday in a Regional Round playoff contest. The winner of that game will then take on the winner of No. 7 Converse and No. 10 Weston for the right to advance to Sulphur for the Class B State Baseball Tournament.

Tigers travel to Mangham tonight in Regional Round

The Lake Arthur Tigers will kick-off their Regional Round series tonight when they hit the road to Mangham for a clash with the No. 3 Dragons. The two teams will play the first game tonight at 5 pm, and the second contest is scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm. If there is a third game, it will be played immidiately following the completion of the second contest at 4pm. The Dragons deafeated Jonesboro-Hodge 13-0 in the bi-district round, and bring in a 20-4 record into tonight’s game. No. 19 Lake Arthur toppled No. 14 Avoyelles Public Charter 8-1 in their opening game, and come in with a 19-10 overall mark.
