WELSH – The 2021 baseball season came to a tough end for the No. 10 Welsh Greyhounds this week, as the No. 23-seeded Vinton Lions came into Sportsman’s Park and slipped past the hosts by a final of 12-11. In a game that saw multiple highs and lows for both squads, it was the Lions who built a 9-4 lead through four innings of play after a 9-run third inning. However, the Hounds would never throw in the towel and battled to the very last out in hopes of moving on. The Hounds would trim the Vinton lead to 10-9 in the bottom of the fifth inning to get well within striking distance, however Vinton would again answer with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the seventh to up the lead to 12-9. Like they had done all evening long, Welsh answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 12-11. However, Vinton pitcher Lucas Bunting got a pair of strikeouts to end the game with the tying run standing 180-feet away on second base.
