LUTCHER - The Jennings Bulldogs found another piece of magic Friday night, as they rallied for a late TD and 2-point conversion to grab an amazing 50-49 win over the Lutcher Bulldogs in the regional round of the 3A playoffs. With 46 seconds left in the contest, Jennings quarterback Bub Willridge hit a “hook-and-lateral” through Ja’Corien Palfrey to Trevor Etienne to close a Lutcher lead to 49-48. A gutsy Bulldog coaching staff opted to go for 2 and the win, and Willridge found tight end Clay Broussard all alone in the endzone to grab a 50-49 lead.

Lady Dogs stomp Abbeville 49-36 to stay unbeaten

ABBEVILLE - The Jennings Lady Bulldogs (JHS) kept their winning ways rolling, as they improved to 7-0 with a 49-36 triumph over the Abbeville Lady Wildcats.

Jill Fontenot had yet another huge night for the Dogs by pumping in a game-high 23 points to help lift the visitors to their 13-point win.

Jennings (7-0) got off to a quick start by flying out to a 17-6 lead they would never relinquish. Fontenot would drop in eight points in the first, including a jumper from 3-point land.

Lady Tigers blast South Beau

LONGVIIIF - The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers (LA) rolled through another Class 3A program in the opening of the South Beauregard High SchoolTournament Wednesday night, as they blasted Westlake by a final of 79-36.

It was another big scoring effort for the Lady Tigers, as they placed another four players in double figures in the win.

ELIZABETH - The Lacassine Lady Cardinals (LHS) went on the road this week and toppled the Elizabeth Lady Bulldogs by a final of 60-55. The Lady Cardinals got 26 big points from Sydnie Cooley to help grab the victory.

LHS jumped out to a big 19-6 lead to open the contest. Cooley drilled 11 tallies in the first stanza, including the first of her three 3-pointers. Vanessa Duhe pumped in six markers, while Makeela Freeman dropped in a two.

Texas prep player faces assault charge, team out of playoffs

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) —A Texas high school football player who ran onto the field and blindsided a referee who had ejected him from a game was charged with assault Friday and his team has been taken out of the playoffs.

Senior defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron of Edinburg High School appeared in municipal court after being charged with class A assault, a misdemeanor, according to court administrator Marib el Velasquez.

MLB sues insurance providers, cites billions in virus losses

(AP) - Major League Baseball and all 30 of its teams are suing their insurance providers, citing billions of dollars in losses during the 2020 season played almost entirely without fans due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The suit, filed in October in California Superior Court in Alameda County, was obtained Friday by The Associated Press. It says providers MG, Factory Mutual and Interstate Fire and Casualty Company have refused to pay claims made by MLB despite the league’s “all-risk” policy purchases.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After the longest season and the shortest offseason in NBA history, the champion Los Angeles Lakers are back at work with two content superstars, a younger lineup around them — and a steady confidence they can do it all again.

The Lakers seem confident and collected as they head into team workouts this weekend, about eight weeks after they finished off the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals on Oct. 11.

As the Bulldogs get ready to play the Lutcher Bulldogs in the second round of the playoffs the first thing that comes to mind is the finality of the second part of the season. Every game is win or go home and the season is done. In every playoff game, one teams group of seniors will play their last high school football game ever. For most, it will be their last of any organized football game. This finality makes every game both nerve wracking and exciting.

Lady Tigers plow through Grand Lake 86-9

LAKE ARTHUR - The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers (LA) made quick work of the visiting Grand Lake Lady Hornets Tuesday night by pounding their guests by a final of 86-9.

The win upped Lake Arthur’s record to 6-0 overall. LA placed four players in double figures, with senior Deonna Brister leading the way with 34 points. Darrah Broussard, Vivian Sketoe and Katherine Leonards all hit double figuers for LA in the win.
