IOTA – The Iota High School Bulldogs turned in a magical 2018 season by going undefeated in the regular season, winning a District 5-3A championship and reaching the semi-finals of the Class 3A state playoffs, one game shy of playing the Mercedes Benz Superdome. However, the Bulldogs are not just content on being a oneyear wonder, and return valuable pieces to a puzzle that could have them sitting atop the ranks in Class 3A.

Verlander strikes out 13, Astros blank Indians 2-0

CLEVELAND (AP) — Justin Verlander struck out 13 to reach double figures for the third straight start and sixth time this season, leading the Houston Astros over the Cleveland Indians 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Verlander (14-4) outpitched Shane Bieber and won his fourth consecutive start, tying Washington’s Stephen Strasburg for the major league lead in wins. Verlander allowed two hits in seven innings and walked none.

He allowed one runner to reach second. Cleveland’s only hits were singles by Roberto Pérez leading off the third and Greg Allen starting the sixth.

DEER PARK, TEXAS – The Jennings Bronco All-Stars’ season came to an end here at the Bronco South Zone Tournament in South Houston over the weekend, as they were bounced from the 16-team event after a valiant showing. Jennings went 0-1-1 in pool play, but bounced back to win their first game of bracket play. After building a 7-0 lead in the second round, Normoyle, Texas rallied to defeat Jennings 8-7 to eliminate the locals. Laporte, Texas, who was Jennings’ first game of pool play, went on to win the tournament and advance to the Bronco World Series in Laredo, Texas.

LSU Athletics announces alcoholic beverage policy

BATON ROUGE - LSU Athletics announced the addition of beer and wine sales in public areas of Tiger Stadium along with its policies and procedures for alcoholic beverages. The policy, which includes a fan code of conduct, promotes responsible consumption along with a safe and enjoyable environment for all fans.

Astros hit 3 homers, beat Cards 6-2; Goldschmidt streak ends

ST. LOUIS (AP) — George Springer has become a master at setting the tone for the Houston Astros.

Springer led off the game with a home run, Jose Altuve and rookie Yordan Alvarez also connected and the Astros beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 Sunday.

Houston has won nine of 11, including two of three in this interleague matchup of division leaders.

Paul Goldschmidt’s team recordtying streak of six straight games with a home run ended for St. Louis. He singled in five at-bats.
