Days of tenant farming over for parish pair

Days of farming on rented land are over for the families of Verba W. Williams and Frank Daniel, tenant farmers living in Thornwell and Roanoke communities, Jeff Davis Parish.

MORGAN CITY - Elton's "Mighty" Indians move into the state semifinals for the second consecutive year Friday night when they trek to Morgan City to clash with the Eagles of Central Catholic in the Class A football playoffs. Game time will be 7:30 p.m. with Morgan City High Stadium as the site.

Hunters Come South

The Mermentau River and the lakes along its course are very fast becoming favorite resorts for many hunting clubs from northern states. The Macon county Classic (Illinois) Reuben hunting Sandw club is now taking an outing at Shell Beach and another large part from Canton, Ill., is now on its way to another point along the river.

Cyclone kills 5, injures 23

A cyclone struck Mermentau about 2:30 Thursday afternoon. It last four or five minutes doing much damage. According to Mayor Harrington, four person were killed outright and one died last night from injuries received during the storm. Twenty-three were injured, several of whom it is thought will not live. It was necessary to send two of the injured to the hospital at New Orleans.
