Local family celebrates legacy of 7-Up Bottling Company with former employees

Legacy is a strong word, but speaking to former employees of the 7-Up Bottling Company, there is an impression left that these men and women were affected in a positive way far beyond the simple expectations of a job.

On the other hand, talking to the descendants of Albert Morgan who ran the company their ancestor started, one realizes that for whatever good was passed on through their work ethic, the Morgans feel they were just doing their job.

Announcement of the special rates, on account of the Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans, were made Friday through local agent H.L. Davis at the S.P.

$5.59 is the round trip rate from Jennings to New Orleans. Dates of sale of tickets are Jan. 27th to Feb. 3 and for train scheduled to arrive in N.O. before midnight of Feb. 4. Final return limit to reach original starting point is prior to midnight of Feb. 14th, 1913.

Lafayette man fears rabies may result from horse bite

Last Saturday morning, Philibert Hernandez, son of Mr. Chas. Hernandez of the eighth ward, was attacked and slightly wounded on the arm by his favorite horse.

The animal had been stabled and young Hernandez was preparing to exercise him, when without warning the horse seized his master by the right arm and tore off the sleeve, causing a slight abrasion of the skin.

Although the wound is so slight, the strong symptoms of rabies which soon developed led young Hernandez to kill the horse and consult medical advice.

TOWNS WIN OPENERS IN INDEPENDENT LOOP

Elton, Jennings and Lake Arthur pried the lid off the Jeff Davis Parish Independent Basketball League's schedule with victories at Lake Arthur last night.

To some of the old settlers of this area, this is a “Red Letter Day.” For it is the 55th anniversary of the “Big Snow.”

After days of unseasonable temperatures, the weatherman gives a reminder of that occasion today as the mercury has been sent skidding. Early this morning the reading went down to a cool 44, a far cry from the 70’s of the past several weeks.

But snow is not expected today. At least, that is what the weather prognosticator says.
