Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury has gone on record as seeking the establishment of the proposed state rice experiment station for this parish as the logical location since this parish is the largest producer of rice in the state.

In a resolution to be sent to Dean J.G. Lee and W.O. Taggart, director of the state experiment stations, it is cited that Jeff Davis Parish produced 5,003,900 bushels of rice in 1947 on 120,000 acres and that the rice was grown on a variety of soil types which are to be found in the rice growing area of the state.

Efforts to locate the body of a drowning victim in the Mermentau River were still unsuccessful at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon.

Searching has gone on almost around the clock since the accident was reported about 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

The body of a companion was recovered at 10:05 yesterday morning. Since that time various methods have been used in trying to locate the second body.

A Jennings business is closing its doors forever after having successfully served the community for more than half a century.

The A&P grocery store will say farewell to its devoted patrons at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

According to store manager Dwight Lockhart, A&P has been in business in Jennings for approximately 56 years.

Lockhart said a franchise representative will be in Jennings next week to attempt to relocate some of the 23 local residents employed by the A&P grocery store, some of whom are near retirement.
