Elery John LeGros
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Elery John LeGros, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, while surrounded by his wife, sister and six children.
A Mass of Christian burial for Elery John LeGros, 94, of Jennings will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings beginning today, Tuesday, Jan. 25, from 3:30-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and immediately followed by words of remembrance and expressions by the family.
The family requests that visitation resume Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass at 11 a.m. Elery was born in Lake Arthur on Thursday, Dec. 15,
Elery was born in Lake Arthur on Thursday, Dec. 15, 1927, to Ethel (DuPuis) and Clomare LeGros. Elery served our country honorably from 1954-1956 in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion.
Elery worked for The Superior Oil Company on the Keck, many offshore platforms, structure 13 in Cameron and as an assistant operator/pumper, ending his 40-year career in the oilfields of South Louisiana in White Lake. He was known throughout Superior/Mobil as one of the best, if not the best cook in the company.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and drinking beer. He was faithful to his religion and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2012.
Elery was a kind and friendly man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Elery is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Betty May Ardoin LeGros of Jennings; his six children, Yvette LeBlanc (Danny) of Jennings, Brian LeGros (Cindy) of Broussard, Drew LeGros of Lafayette, Philip LeGros (Sofia) of Jennings, Robert LeGros of Austin, Texas and Yvonne Eastman (Steve) of Jennings; his 19 grandchildren, Chad, Bridget, Aaron, Desiree, Josh, Jayme, Jordan, Jesse, Jimmie, Jeremy, Jayce, Badiha, Carlos, Giovani, Sadie, Josiah, Samuel, Sophie and Haleigh; his 38 greatgrandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Jeanette Guidry (Wavel) of Lake Arthur.
Elery was preceded in death by his parents, Clomare and Ethel LeGros; his brother, Andrew LeGros; his sister, Anna Lou Nugent; and his grandson, Christopher Paul LeGros.
Carrying Elery to his final resting place will be his grandsons.
