CHURCH POINT - Funeral services for Jerry Thomas Richert, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home, located at 219 N. Broadway in Church Point, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, and from 8 a.m. Thursday until the time of services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday by Lerlin LeJeune.

Pastor Wayne Duet will conduct the services, with interment following in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy. 35 north of Church Point.

Mr. Richert, a native of Jennings, and longtime resident of rural Acadia Parish near Richard, died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 2, 2020, at The Carpenter House in Lafayette.

A U.S. Army Master Sergeant, Mr. Richert retired from the Army National Guard after some 23 years of service and from employment with Amoco Petroleum after 28 years. A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Edward Church for 30 years and belonged to American Legion Post 225 and Knights of Columbus Council 2504 in Church Point. Truly loved by his extended family and friends, he will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Della Vanicor Richert of Richard; his sons, Thomas Wade Richert and wife Cheryl of Jennings and Michael Todd Richert and wife Amy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his daughter, Tracey Richert Bourque of Broussard; his brothers, Arthur Richert, Jr., of Slidell and Albert Richert and wife Gay and Allen Richert and wife Dale, all of Sulphur; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Richert, Sr., and Lorena Istre Richert; a brother, Charles Richert; and a sister, Barbara Ivey.
