LAKE ARTHUR - Funeral Services for Leland James Matt, 67, of Lakeside will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning today, Friday, March 29, 2019, at 3 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m., and continuing until 10 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of his service at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Leland was born on July 28, 1951, to Henry Matt and Verna Mae Bertrand Matt. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on March 27, 2019. Leland worked as a drilling consultant. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his yard and cooking. Most of all, Leland loved spending time with his family. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leland is survived by his wife, Shelia Stroder Matt of Lakeside; his two sons, Toby Matt of Lakeside and Todd Matt (Shay) of Lake Charles; his daughter, Sherry Matt of Lakeside; his 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Brian, Nicholas, Blake, Tanner, Ava, Dylan, Noah, Emma and Dayne; his great-grandchild, Leland Chad Matt; his three brothers, Keith Matt of Lake Arthur, Ray Matt of Lake Arthur and Steven Matt of Lakeside; and his sister, Geraldine Winch of Lafayette.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Verna Mae Matt; his first wife, Barbara Matt; and his son, Chad Matt.

Carrying Leland to his final resting place will be Joshua Bienvenu, Blake Matt, Scott Milner, Wayne Hebert, Jacob Blanchard and Byron Feverjean.
