Priscilla Marie Charles
Funeral services for Ms. Priscilla Marie Charles, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, in St. James Baptist Church in Roanoke, with Rev. Dr. Willie Maynard officiating.
Visitation will be held in the church from 8 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.
Burial will be in Peterson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary.
Priscilla entered into eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, at Houston Methodist Hospital The Woodlands, Texas.
She was born July 8, 1933, in Freetown in Iberia Parish to the late Foster Charles and Earline Livingston Charles.
After moving to Roanoke at an early age, she remained there until her heavenly departure. She was a lifelong member of St. James Baptist Church, where she was baptized at an early age. Priscilla served as president of the youth choir and was a director and organizer of youth church and community events. She was also treasurer of the Roanoke True Friend Benevolent Society, which was a community organization that gave financial aid to those who needed medical care.
Priscilla received her high school diploma from Jefferson Davis Parish Training School in 1952 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Grambling State University in 1956. She taught school in Holmwood in Calcasieu Parish, and in Welsh and Lacassine in Jeff Davis Parish, where she retired after 35 years of service.
Priscilla leaves to mourn and cherish her memories one devoted brother, Foster R. Charles (Vina) of Lake Charles; one sister, Ruby L. Charles of Roanoke; sisterin-law, Margaret Noah of Thibodeaux; Godson, John H. Charles (Gayle) of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Earline Charles; sister, Elnora J. Charles Cole of Merced, Calif.; brother, James Noah of Thibodeaux; and brother-in-law, M.C. Cole of Merced, Calif.
