Mardi Gras ball to benefit cancer patients
Ellsworth and Deanne Duhon
LAKE ARTHUR - Tickets are now on sale for the annual Mardi Gras Cancer Ball here sponsored by the Jennings Optimist Club.
The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Lake Arthur Community Center, located at 701 Eighth St. The Mardi Gras Ball is an annual event that raises money for a worthy cause.Co-chairman Lenor Cox said that this year’s event would be held in honor of those who first started the fundraiser years ago, Ellsworth and Deanne Duhon of Lake Arthur. “Cancer is something we need to be aware of and show support for and we plan on keeping this fundraiser going for as long as we possibly can,” Cox said. All proceeds from the event will be used to benefit families affected by cancer. “The money will be used to help pay for fuel or hotel rooms for families traveling to receive treatment,” said Cox.
Tickets are $60 per couple or $30 per person. “The ticket price includes entry into the event, a meal and participation in the auction,” said Cox. A king and queen will be chosen from the ticket sales. “Each ticket that is purchased will count as a chance to win,” said Cox. “We will have a drawing and the winners will be royalty for the night.” Cox said that alcohol will be allowed but will not be provided by the sponsors. She encourages attendees to bring their own drink of choice. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Rosedown Rockers from 8 p.m. until midnight. Cox said that there would be a beautifully decorated backdrop arranged so attendees can have their pictures taken for $10.
The public is invited to take part in the festivities of the night. “We always have a good time,” said Cox. “The event is small but it is fun.” The Optimist Club is currently accepting items to be included in the auction.
