Lady Dogs claim pair of tennis victories

The Jennings High School Tennis teams took to the courts this past week for a pair of matchups against St. Louis (STL) and Catholic of New Iberia. (CHNI) After opening the season with losses to 5A Alexandria Senior High, Jennings High (JHS) Tennis Coach Jared Lavergne said he was pleased with the progress he saw, as his girls’ team beat St. Louis for the first time in years. The Lady Dogs also claimed victory over the Lady Panthers, while the young Bulldogs fought hard but fell short in both matches.

After sweeping LCCP, last year’s district champion, and avenging losses to South Beauregard and Westlake, the Bulldogs have found themselves back in the hunt for a postseason berth. The overall record does not adequately show the competitiveness of the Bulldogs on the hardcourt, after an amazing football run to the Super Dome. The season started off slow as four of the starters on the basketball squad were still playing football at the begin ning of the season. Once the Dogs found their court legs, close losses to St Louis (64-67) and Westlake (73-79) seemed to have derailed their attempt at the LHSAA 3A State Tournament.
