LAKE CHARLES — The Lacassine Lady Cardinals and Cardinals picked up a pair of big non-district road wins Friday night by knocking off the St. Louis Lady Saints and Saints. The Lady Card picked up a big 73-48 win over St. Louis in the first game while the Cards squeaked out a close one by a count of 68-61 to run their winning streak to 21 games. Thew win moved the Lady Cards to 7-10 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 21-1 overall on the season. The Cardinals are the No.1-ranked team in their division with their sparkling record. The two teams will be back in action on Friday night at John Juneau Gymnasium for Homecoming. The Lady Cards will do battle with the Lake Charles College Prep Lady Trailblazers, while the boys will take on the Midland Rebels.

The Jennings girls’ and boys’ basketball teams had some northern exposure Friday night in Gaudet Gymnasium. The Lady Dogs led the Class 1A North Central Lady Hurricanes 24-18 at halftime and went on to win 48-34. In the boys game; the Bulldogs only had six players suited up to play against the Class 4A power Northside Vikings. The shorthanded Dogs trailed 68-46 going into the fourth period, and the Vikings would took a 75-57 win.

CROWLEY — Two Jennings High School powerlifters managed to score best overall in their respective divisions during this weekend’s Louisiana High School Powerlifting Crowley High School Raw Invitational. Many members of the Jennings High School powerlifters placed in the top three in various categories.Powerlifting teams are relatively new to the parish high school sports roster, with their popularity growing increasingly each year. This is the first year JHS’s team has competed.
