SFM stay-at-home safety tips offered

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is offering safety tips since families are spending more time at home these days. State Fire Marshal’s Office Public Affairs Director Ashley Rodrigue said they have been posting regular updates in an effort to educate residents about safety in their homes.

“Some may not even be aware of hazards that exist in their homes,” said Rodrigue. “We are hoping this series of information can give people a new perspective, allowing them to look for ways to make situations safer for them and others wherever they go.”

MADD report shows drop in drunk driving conviction rates

A new Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Court Monitoring Report found only 34 percent of drunk driving cases in Louisiana ended with a guilty conviction for the original charge in 2019, compared to 37 percent in 2018.

The remaining 64 percent of cases either ended with dismissal, deferred prosecution or an amended charge.

Nationwide, 59 percent of drunk driving cases monitored by MADD resulted in convictions.

Restaurants face challenges amid virus concerns

JES to provide distance learning

Jennings Elementary will be providing optional distance learning materials for their students.

These materials will focus on the important skills learned this school year in ELA and Math.

Paper packets can be picked up at Jennings Elementary on Monday, April 27, and again on Monday, May 11.

Electronic versions of the packets will be posted on Jennings Elementary School’s website on those dates as well. These materials will not be taken for a grade or put in a student’s permanent record.
