PARK & PRAY

With so many concerns about starting the new school year, First Baptist Church of Jennings is inviting the public to attend a “Park and Pray” event at each of the local public schools. At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, ministers will be present to lead attendees in prayer.

“We know most teachers are nervous. Many parents and even some students are nervous also,” said event organizer Nonie Sonnier. “With everyone on edge, we thought a prayer gathering may help to ease everyone’s mind.”

Council: Fenton may see youth education center

FENTON - The town council has opened discussions in regards to purchasing a piece of property that could allow the village to create a space for local youth to utilize technology.

“We have an opportunity to purchase the house and property across the street from city hall,” said Mayor Eddie B. Alfred. “We’d like to possibly turn it into a youth center and library.”

Alfred said the property was appraised at a value of $75,000. The owner would settle on $65,000 as a selling price to the village.
