During the December meeting of Knights of Columbus Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, Preston and Janet Doucet (at right) were named the council’s Family of the Month for November 2020. Preston has been a member of the Knights since April of 2007 and is a Fourth Degree Knight. He has served as the council’s advocate, lecturer, program director and deputy Grand Knight, and is currently holding the office of recorder. He always sells more than his quota of tickets for the barbecue fundraisers, and he helps to prepare the meals for the council’s customers. He has also assisted with the collection of donations during the annual Tootsie Roll drive. Those proceeds go to support activities benefitting God’s Special Angels. In the past he has helped to host the OLHC Confirmation Receptions. Janet has been an outstanding member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) for over 45 years. She has been the recording secretary, Vice Regent and Regent. She has been chairman and co-chairman for a number of CDA projects. She is the editor of the CDA Newsletter, receiving first place in the court’s division at the state level. She has been the CDA State Publicity Chairman. Janet has received the CDA Daughter of the Year award and has been the Worker of the Year for her Court many times. She is also a valued member of the Ladies Altar Society. For 12 years she represented OLHC Parish on the Board of Directors for Caring Hands. She served as the Board’s Secretary for three years. Preston and Janet have helped to serve supper at the soup kitchen for the homeless, which was conducted for the parish’s Junior High Youth Group. They always assist in helping to decorate St. Mary’s Center for the CDA/KC banquet. This couple has truly been an outstanding asset to the whole community. KC Council members are proud to call them their Family of the Month for November 2020.
