Packers sign former Cardinals linebacker De’Vondre Campbell

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have added a veteran presence at inside linebacker by signing De’Vondre Campbell.

The team announced the move Wednesday. Campbell comes to Green Bay after starting all 16 games for the Arizona Cardinals last season and posting 99 tackles, including 69 solos. Campbell, 27, previously spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, who selected him out of Minnesota in the fourth round of the 2016 draft.

He recorded two sacks and seven tackles for loss last season.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — When the Los Angeles Rams wrap up their three-day mandatory minicamp by practicing at SoFi Stadium on Thursday, it will be the first chance for fans to see them live at the multi-billion dollar facility.

Fenton approves budget

FENTON — The Village of Fenton help their council meeting this week to approve the budget for fiscal year 2021-22.

A public hearing was held on the matter, however, no comments were received.

According to Mayor Eddie Alfred, Jr., there is $1 million in the general fund at this time.

“The budget was pretty much the same as last year,” said Alfred.

The budget earmarked funds for projects such as a road for the Veteran’s Park, a new community center and a farmer’s market.

Additionally, there will be a clean up of the village.

LDWF hosts Free Fishing Weekend

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will host its annual Free Fishing Weekend on June 12 and June 13. The LDWF invites everyone to participate in this exciting opportunity.

The Free Fishing Weekend is an opportunity for residents and visitors to fish Louisiana waters without an otherwise required fishing license.

ABOB production to pay tribute to Ricard

A Block Off Broadway (ABOB) is paying tribute to former JHS Chorus Director Frank Ricard, Jr., with the production of “I’ve Got the Music in Me 2021.”

The productions are to be held at the Strand Theatre in Jennings on June 12 and 13. The Saturday production will begin at 7 p.m. and the Sunday production will commence at 2 p.m.

Auditions were held on April 26 and April 27 where musical alumni from the JHS choir and ABOB attended the rehearsals to help pay tribute to their former mentor.

$3.9B school funding formula with raises approved

BATON ROUGE (AP) — A $3.9 billion financing formula to pay for K-12 public schools and give those schools’ workers a pay raise in the upcoming year received final legislative passage Tuesday with a unanimous vote from the House.

Teachers, principals and other certificated personnel will receive an $800 salary boost in the 2021-22 school year, while school support workers such as cafeteria staff and bus drivers will receive a $400 pay hike. Even with the raises, Louisiana’s public school educators will remain below the Southern average in pay.
