(Culinary.net) When it’s beyond hot outside and the kids are begging for a delicious afternoon snack, sometimes it’s difficult to know where to turn. The pantry is full and the refrigerator is stocked, yet nothing sounds appetizing when it’s scorching outside.

Combining three simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen can save the day and provide a refreshing and scrumptious snack.

Dear Doctor: I’ve been riding my bike a lot this past year, and my lower back hasn’t been quite right. I get a pinching pain, and sometimes my left leg gets pins and needles and feels numb. A friend I ride with wonders if it’s a slipped disc. Can you talk about what that is? Will it heal?

Punishers to hold poker run, festival

The Punishers Rougarou Chapter will be hosting their 3rd annual Marsh Madness fair, festival and poker run on July 24.

The event will begin with registration for the poker run at 8 a.m. The ride will start and finish at Founder’s Park, located at 341 N. Main St.

Proposed stops will include Feather Fuel and Mr. Clint’s.

The fee for riders is $25 and passengers is $10. Bikes, convertibles, Jeeps and classic vehicles are welcome.

For those of you who are not fashion-savvy, a skort is a cute word for a cute skirt that also has cute shorts underneath.

Golfers, in particular, wear skorts.

Or tennis players.

Rarely do women just wear skorts to go to the grocery store; there’s usually some organized sport pushing the idea.

Among my group of friends, there is a leopard skort circulating from golf cart to golf cart. The one who purchased it found that she could no longer fit into it.

Week by week, it has been passed to a different friend.

Dirt work was done at Jerry Simmons Stadium this week in preparation for the upcoming football season. Topdressing the field is done to level the playing field when minor variations or depressions are apparent. According to Jennings High School Coach Rusty Phelps, wet weather conditions have caused some damage to the field and this type of work is done about every two years. Two drainage districts receive clean audits

The Jeff Davis Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No.1 and Gravity Sub-District A were recently found to have healthy finances by the Louisiana State Legislative Auditor’s Office (LLAO) for the 2020 fiscal year.

An audit was completed on the financial statements of the Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 in Jennings for the year ending Dec. 31, 2020.

The 12-page report was completed by certified public accountant J. Aaron Cooper, of Jennings.

The Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 is a component unit of the Jeff Davis Police Jury.

Woods addresses club on jail COVID regulations

Sheriff Ivy Woods was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club meeting this week and addressed COVID regulations in place at the jail and the re-opening of video visitation stations.

“The CDC recommends seven to 14 days of quarantine for people booked into the jail,” said Woods. “Currently we are holding incoming inmates in a three- to seven-day quarantine, provided they are not exhibiting any symptoms.”
