The Jeff Davis Parish School Board (JDSB) voted unanimously Thursday to rename Jennings High School (JHS) baseball field after the late and beloved Coach Danny Reed.

A man-and-wife high wire act, featuring the Weingards, is being offered free to the public in the midway of the Jefferson Davis Parish Fair, it is announced.

The rapidly expanding program for the Jeff Davis parish fair and oil exposition here Wednesday through Saturday of next week will include an address by Commissioner of Agriculture Dave Pierce at 10 a.m. Friday at the fair grounds.

"Don't be a dummy. Buckle up." Larry and Vince, the duo that made that phrase famous in television commercial spots, are in Jennings to promote driving awareness and safety belt use, said Jennings Fire Chief Tommy Deshotel.

Bear-roping plans nixed

When Jennings planned a bear-roping event as part of its Parish Fair in the 1930’s, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stepped in and said that they had no objection to the roping of “cow brutes and horses” but the roping of a bear, in their view, was both inhumane and unnecessary.

Littering costs state $40 million
