Parish unemployment below state, national rates

Parish unemployment figures released this week showed Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April came in just below or at the nation’s lowest rates since the start of the pandemic.

State health officials are encouraging area parents to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 as infection numbers continue to rise across Louisiana.

COA opens full time

The Jeff Davis Council on Aging (COA) will resume full-time starting today, Wednesday. The office will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday, with limited hours of 7-10 a.m. on Fridays, to assist parish seniors with their needs. The exercise room will be available to parish seniors from 7 a.m. to noon Monday to Thursday and closed on Fridays. The COA office is located at 210 North State St. For more information on COA or available programs, call the office at 337-824-5504.
