The Jefferson Davis Parish School Board in its regular monthly meeting last night approved an increase in school lunches at five parish schools. The biggest increase will be at Jennings High School, where a 10-cent increase, or a total of 30 cents per day, will be charged. The others, all 5-cent increases bringing the cost of school unties to 25 cents, were Jennings Northside, Jennings Ward Elementary, Lacassine High School and Lake Arthur High School.
Philip McLean, Jr., 69, of Lake Charles, was reunited with his wife, Cathryn”Cathy” Rees McLean, 67, who passed away on March 2, 2022, on Wednesday July 13, 2022 following an extended illness.

ELTON – Far too many athletes these days have to hear the words that they are too small to make a difference, or that their stature will keep them from achieving big things on the playing field. Ever since he could recall, Elton High’s Sherman Bellow has proclaimed he has heard those sentiments his whole life. Whether it be on the basketball court or on the football field, Bellow usually is dwarfed by much bigger athletes. Only difference is, they are all usually flailing all over the place trying to catch him. As a guard on the Indian basketball team or a tailback on the gridiron, most others usually fail at their attempts to sloe him down.
During the American Legion Department of Louisiana Convention (state-level meeting) held in Alexandria from June 2-5, James W. “Jimmy” Richert Jr. (second from right) from James O. Hall 19 of the American Legion in Jennings was presented the M. C. “Mike” Gehr Blue Cap Award as the outstanding Legionnaire in the State of Louisiana among Legion members who have never served in an elective office above post level.
