Established in the wake of World War I, the original intent of the Veterans Day holiday was to celebrate world peace. While much has changed in the 100 years since the end of World War I and the signing of the armistice agreement, throughout the past century, the purpose of Veterans Day has remained the same: to say thank you to all the men and women who have served to protect and defend the United States of America.
