Louis Miller, the trusty who saved the life of a Jailer J. H. Martin several weeks ago, when two inmates attempted a desperate brake for liberty, knocking Martin down the stairs, breaking his leg and causing other injuries, and whom they would have probably killed after taking his gun from him, had not the inmate come to the jailer’s rescue and held the prisoners at bay until officers from the sheriff’s office came to the rescue. The medal, which was presented to Miller Saturday, bears the following inscription: Presented by Isaac Fontenot, Sheriff Jefferson Davis Parish of Louisiana And Others For Heroic Courage of the Law May 13, 1926.
