DOTD ROAD CLOSURE

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a partial closure on Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. During this time, the right lane on U.S. 90 westbound will be closed for utility work, with the nearest cross street being .05 miles west of La. 26.

10,000 red drum to be stocked in Calcasieu Lake estuary as part of pilot program

LeBlanc sets World Record in half marathon

Hathaway native and former McNeese State University (MSU) distance runner Jarrett LeBlanc had a special day when he set out to break the world record for the fastest half marathon run on a treadmill. The previous record was 1:03:08 held by American John Raneri, who set the record in 2020. Leblanc broke the record by 18 seconds, running the 13.1 mile half marathon in a record 1:02:50 The world record attempt was to raise money for Camp Bon Couer, a non profit organization that provides camps and programs for children with heart defects.

MLB All-Star Paul Byrd to be inducted into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame

Paul Byrd was an LSU All-American and he pitched over 14 years in Major League Baseball, a career that has landed him in the Class of 2023 of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

LAKE ARTHUR — Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Charles, 84, of Lake Arthur will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at Antioch Baptist Church, 625 Iowa Avenue in Lake Arthur with Pastor Reverend Emerson Baty, Sr., officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Internment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Arthur under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings.
