1942 - Migratory farm workers need have no fear of being stranded away from home when national gasoline rationing starts, according to Amos J. Derouen, Manger of the Lake Charles office of the United State Employment Service.

Fred M. Smith made Lieutenant in Naval Air Corps

1942 - Fred Mims Smith, son of Dr. and Mrs. Morgan Smith, has recently been promoted to a Lieutenant in the Naval ‘‘Air Corps, at Charleston South Carolina. Lt. Smith completed his Air Corps, training at Jacksonville, Fl and upon completion of his training was made an instructor.

A local non-profit organization that supports victims of domestic violence is seeking sponsors to assist parish families during the holiday season.

Race to read with local libraries

Jeff Davis Parish Libraries have joined forces with the non-profit organization The Rougarou Chapter Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) to host a reading contest, “Reading with Rougarou”. A party will be held at each branch (Jennings, Elton, Lake Arthur, Welsh and book mobile) in honor of the winner who will receive a new bicycle during the celebration.

Audrey Anne Daigle Daboval passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023. She was born August 28, 1937 in Thornwell, lived most of her life in Welsh and enjoyed her residency in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home with the extraordinary loving care provided by the staff during her final years.
