LACASSINE — The graduating class of Lacassine High School enjoyed a beautiful ceremony in their honor Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. as they prepared for the next step in their lives.

HOUSTON (AP) — Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says it could take “weeks” for power to be restored in some parts of Houston following fierce storms. Hidalgo said Friday that the kind of wind that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people in Texas is something not seen in Harris County since Hurricane Alicia in 1983. At least four people were killed after storms Thursday swept through Harris County, which includes Houston. Officials warned residents that it would be a slow cleanup and that some residents should brace to be without electricity for days, if not longer.

LAKE ARTHUR — Jennings High School graduate Patrick Deaville, class of ‘68, moved to Lake Arthur in 1974 to take a job as band director for sixth through twelfth grades at Lake Arthur High School.

Putin made a back-handed rebuke for the U.S., and others who oppose the Moscow-Beijing relationship, saying an “emerging multipolar world ... is now taking shape before our eyes.” Putin praised their bilateral trade as he toured a China-Russia Expo.

The severe weather that swept through Louisiana earlier this week, including reports of tornadic activity in several parts of the state, caused extensive property damage and the loss of life.

Parish library main branch closed for work

The Jennings Branch of the Jeff Davis Parish Library system will be closed today, Friday, May 17, for a construction project. Library officials have a surprise addition to include in the current services the parish library provides. The closure will give workers a chance to install the much-needed equipment.

Police Jury releases Parish Administrator applicant names on threat of court

Jeff Davis Parish Policy Jury held an executive session during a special meeting recently to discuss potential legal action over a denial of a public records request by KPLC of Lake Charles that would provide the applicant names for the newly created Parish Administrator position.
