During the February 2022 meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, Grand Knight Toni Benoit (left) presented the Council’s Family of the Month for January 2022 to the family of James and Tammy Habetz. James currently serves as the Council’s Warden. James has been a member of the Knights since 1974 and is an Honorary Life Member of the Order and a Third Degree Knight. James and Tammy are outstanding cooks who have done an excellent job preparing delicious side dishes for Our Lady Help of Christians Parish’s Annual Catholic Daughters/ Knights of Columbus Awards Banquet. They also prepared the meal for the 4th Degree Knights when Council 2012 hosted the meetings of Msgr. Peters Assembly eight times over the last six years, including the meeting in January. In addition, they prepare some of the food for the Council’s annual Christmas Parties every December. On many occasions James and Tammy have cooked the meal prior to the monthly KC Council meetings, and they always get rave reviews. James has also helped fry the fish at OLHC Parish Picnics. They have helped to collect donations for the annual Tootsie Roll Drive, whose proceeds go to support God’s Special Angels. They also supported the construction of the bell tower by the OLHC Church building. This is an activity that has benefitted many in the community. The Habetz family has provided valued support during the annual Shannon Savoy Memorial Golf Tournament whose proceeds go to support Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Elementary School. On Sept. 25, 2020, James and a group of Brother Knights from the Council prepared a meal at St. Rafael Catholic Church in Iowa to support those adversely impacted by Hurricane Laura. In addition, they have, on several occasions, supported the supply distribution centers operated on a monthly basis at St. Mary’s Center.
