Nicki Minaj’s brother sentenced to 25 years to life

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — The brother of rapper Nicki Minaj was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at his Long Island home.

A judge convicted Jelani Maraj of predatory sexual assault and child endangerment in November 2017. The victim testified during the trial that Maraj repeatedly raped her in 2015 while her mother was at work.

Prosecutors have said DNA evidence recovered from the girl’s pajama pants was linked to Maraj. The girl’s younger brother also testified at the trial that he witnessed one assault.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Gary (Darlene) Cryer of Lafayette and Jeannie (Johnnie) Frederick of Lake Arthur. The prospective groom is the son of Brenda and Carl Green, Sr., of Jennings. New JDP police jurors attend training

Four new Jeff Davis Police Jurors attended a new elected officials training day hosted by the Louisiana Police Jury Association on Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. The police jurors completed mandatory ethics and campaign finance training, and also participated in educational sessions from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, Louisiana State Auditors Office, the National Association of Counties, the Secretary of State’s Office and the Louisiana Police Jury Association. The Guest Speaker of the Training was Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin.
