2020: A reluctant retrospect

Ok, let’s get the obvious out of the way. 2020 was the year of COVID-19, also known as corona (minus the lime), the plague, the super crud, or, as my dad calls it (and most other contagious illnesses), “the rooty-gootus.” But what else happened in 2020?

One of the more appalling moments in the recent history of the House of Representatives occurred recently in the Capitol Visitor Center. Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave her weekly news conference and said that she had changed her position on the issue of passing a coronavirus relief bill. For months, as millions suffered the economic devastation associated with the pandemic, Pelosi stonewalled the Trump administration’s efforts to pass targeted, short-term relief for those in need. Now, as if by magic, she’s all for it.

Donate to food pantries, utility funds this Christmas

Christmas often sees nonprofit groups, churches, schools and businesses collecting toys for children from underprivileged families. Such drives are, without a doubt, a compassionate project that brings a little joy to local youth.
