When I finally sat down to write this column, I noticed that the date (2/19) is the 53rd anniversary of the day I raised my right hand and swore to serve and protect, up to and including my death, to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today in this country we call America. In 1967, there were hundreds of thousands of us taking the oath, serving, dying, recuperating from wounds and many who had served and were returning home to loved ones and re-insertion into society.
