“In God We Trust” is the official motto of the United States, one that dates back to the founding fathers. For some it has spiritual meaning and for others it is used in a historical context to refer to early America.
This week, the state Senate voted 33-0 to require public schools to display the motto in their buildings, as well as teach students about its meaning. Baton Rouge Democrat Regina Barrow sponsored the bill, saying she felt it is important for young people to understand the nation’s patriotic history. The proposal is now in the House for consideration.
