Hospital to broadcast zoo TV for young patients

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Sick children at a Louisiana hospital who can’t travel to a zoo will soon have the wildlife come to them, through a new TV channel in their hospital rooms. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge announced a new collaboration that will add the closed-circuit TV channel San Diego Zoo Kids into patients’ rooms. Patients and their families will meet some animals from the Baton Rouge Zoo at a special event Friday to kick off the partnership with San Diego Zoo Global.

Sixteen people were booked into the parish jail by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office over the past week.

Multi-agency investigation uncovers child porn

A 74-year-old Jennings man is currently in custody after a cyber tip led state and local investigators to determine he was in possession of child pornography.

Wednesday, Ronald Charles Leblanc, 74, was charged with four counts of pornography involving juveniles. According to the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office (JDSO), Leblanc was arrested and booked into the parish jail by Louisiana State Police. Bond was set at $100,000 as of press time Friday.

During the 2019 4-H Livestock Show Awards Banquet, Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff Ivy Woods recognized the outgoing parish seniors who participated in the 4-H, FFA Livestock Program. After the regularly scheduled awards were given, Sheriff Woods presented plaques to the five seniors who were present during the banquet.

4-H Members of the Jeff Davis Parish Dairy Club participated in the Parish Livestock Show held on January 20 and 21, at the Jeff Davis Parish Fairgrounds in Jennings.

Members in attendance included: Kyle Sonnier, Camille Sonnier, Wyatt Sonnier, Aubrie Istre, Ella Istre, Benjamin Sonnier, Marie Thibodeaux, Dani Thibodeaux and Averi Thibodeaux. Youth all participated in the dairy cattle show and livestock judging contest. Results are as follows:

LSU AgCenter calendar photo contest deadline nears

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana photographers who want to submit photographs for the LSU AgCenter 2020 Get It Growing Lawn and Garden Calendar have only a few days left to enter.

Feb. 28 is the deadline for sending their best photos of beautiful Louisiana flowers, plants, lawns and gardens. LSU AgCenter faculty members will select approximately 40 photographs for the calendar, said project coordinator Elma Sue McCallum.

Abortion quickly becomes key issue in Virginia politics

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A pitched debate about lateterm abortions in Virginia erupted into all-out political warfare Thursday as Republicans — including President Donald Trump — sought to capitalize on Democratic missteps.

Republicans accused Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, a folksy pediatric neurologist who is personal friends with many GOP lawmakers, of backing infanticide. Republicans said recent statements by Northam and other Democrats have laid bare their support for on-demand abortions at any point of a pregnancy, including up to the moments before birth — or even after.
