Iran braces for sanctions after currency crash, protests

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran is bracing for the restoration of U.S. sanctions on its vital oil industry next week, as it grapples with an economic crisis that has sparked sporadic protests over rising prices, corruption and unemployment.

The Trump administration on Friday announced the reimposition of all U.S. sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, ramping up economic pressure on the Islamic Republic.

DIOCESE: PASTOR INVOLVED IN ‘IMPROPER BEHAVIOR WITH MINORS’

JEANERETTE (AP) — A Catholic diocese in Louisiana has suspended a pastor accused of “improper behavior with minors” and referred his case to law enforcement.

The Daily Advertiser reports Father Jody J. Simoneaux of Jeanerette has been placed on administrative leave. A diocese statement says the allegations against St. John the Evangelist Church pastor involve incidents that happened decades ago when Simoneaux was assigned to St. Anthony Church and St. Edmund High School in Eunice and St. Anne Church in Youngsville.

JDP voters to cast ballots in Nov. 6 Congressional Open Primary

Voters in Jeff Davis Parish will head to the polls this Tuesday, Nov. 6 to vote in the 2018 Congressional Open Primary. The ballot on Nov. 6 includes six constitutional amendments, as well as several statewide and parishwide ballot measures, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office. Additionally, each of Louisiana’s 64 parishes will vote on a measure to authorize fantasy sports contests in each parish. According to SOS, voters will get the chance to decide on the following races this fall:

The Law Enforcement Officer Award gives coworkers, family members or others who know the level of dedication these officers provide, a chance to nominate them for their efforts.

Jennings Fire Department Secretary to the Chief Pam Vincent was responsible for nominating Jennings Police Department Animal Control Officer Debbie Breaux for the award this year.

The Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home treated residents to a “Cochon De Luau” on Friday morning. The facility was decorated in a Hawaiian theme and volunteers served up almost 200 pounds of pork.

Vets Day events set in parish

A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good, Veterans Day falls this year on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day is a national holiday held each year on the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I and hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918, according to the U.S.

Department of Veterans Affairs. The armistice was signed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month and was regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

Elton FFA sets state record at national convention

The Elton Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter set a state record at the 91st National Competition Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana at the end of October. Thirty-nine teams from around the state competed in three rounds of competition over three days, according to the National FFA. The Elton chapter won first place in the Chapter of Conduct Meeting category. This was the first time a Louisiana team took the national award in that category and only the third time to win a national title.

MADISON, Wis. - A delegation from Louisiana 4-H enjoyed several days of fun and learning during the 64th Annual National 4-H Dairy Conference on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison from Sept. 30 through Oct. 3, 2018. The conference hosts approximately 200 youth and adult delegates from across the USA and Canada.
