LDWF: Recreational red snapper landings estimates through Aug. 12

The latest preliminary landings statistics for recreational red snapper recorded by LA Creel, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ near real-time landings data collection program, are 737,299 pounds, or 98 percent of Louisiana’s annual private recreational allocation of 743,000 pounds, through August 12.

The recreational red snapper season was closed on Sunday, August 12, and no further recreational harvest is allowed at this time.

LDWF Schedules Drawdown for Lake Bruin in Tensas Parish

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, in conjunction with the Lake Bruin Recreation and Water Conservation District, has scheduled a drawdown for Lake Bruin in Tensas Parish to begin on September 3, 2018.

The department recommended the drawdown to improve fisheries habitat and provide homeowners the opportunity to conduct shoreline and property maintenance.

The water level will be lowered 5 feet below pool stage, and the water control structure will close on December 15, 2018, to allow the lake to refill to normal level.

Jennings High School FFA hosts state officers

Every year, the 10 Louisiana Future Farmers of America (FFA) state officers and staff spend a week traveling around the state of Louisiana.

During the week, they visit sponsors, business leaders, and chapters to spread knowledge about the FFA and discuss current agricultural topics, during the annual Goodwill Tour.

On Aug. 16, the officers and staff stopped at JHS as part of their tour. The state officers were able to enjoy lunch with members, as well as engage the students in different activities. The activities taught students about leadership, service and the FFA.

Tyrod Taylor isn’t expected to miss any time — and is still in line to start the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh — after dislocating his left pinky and bruising his hand in Thursday’s 5-0 win over Philadelphia.

Taylor’s injury initially appeared serious after he awkwardly landed on his non-throwing hand and wrist while bracing his fall after firing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-goal.

Cardinals rookie Rosen a game-time decision for Cowboys game

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals may be without rookie quarterback Josh Rosen when they play at Dallas in a preseason game Sunday night.

Coach Steve Wilks said after Friday’s practice that Rosen’s participation would be a game-time decision. Rosen slammed his thumb into a helmet during practice early this week.

Wilks said if Rosen doesn’t play, Mike Glennon and rookie Charles Kanoff would split time after starter Sam Bradford departs the game.

Wilks said defensive tackles Robert Nkemdiche (foot), Olsen Pierre (toe) and Corey Peters (knee) would not play.
