A Korean War Commemorative Celebration was held Thursday for 50 residents of the Southwest LouisianaVeterans Home in Jennings.

Kaly Gist-Jones, an activities coordinator at the SLWVH, said the ceremony was held to honor those who served in what many have called the “Forgotten War” that lasted from 1950 to 1953 and resulted in the loss of life of nearly 40,000 American soldiers.

Parish approves new Lake Arthur maintenance yard

LAKE ARTHUR - A new maintenance yard that will house parish equipment is being built here.

The site will be located on seven acres just off of Andrus Cove Cemetery Road, according to Jeff Davis Police Jury President Donald Woods.

Parish officials agreed to advertise for bids for work on the $434,000 project for Division One last week. The funds to cover the cost of the project will also come from Division One, Woods said.

Trump open to Moscow visit if Putin formally invites him

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is open to visiting Moscow if formally invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the White House said Friday.

Putin had said earlier Friday during a meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, that he was ready to invite Trump and also ready to visit Washington if conditions are right.

That’s fine with Trump, said Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The U.S. president “looks forward to having President Putin to Washington after the first of the year, and he is open to visiting Moscow upon receiving a formal invitation,” she said.
