Ankle monitors lead cops to suspects
Jennings police arrested two male juveniles Wednesday after they allegedly held a third unnamed juvenile at gunpoint before robbing him.
The two suspects, who were both on juvenile probation at the time of the alleged robbery, were captured because of the GPS on their ankle monitor bracelets, interim police chief Danny Semmes said.
“These two were wearing ankle bracelets because they were not supposed to leave their homes,” Semmes said. “Because of GPS, we were able to locate them easily.”
Wednesday afternoon, officers received a call from a juvenile male who said he had been robbed at his home, Semmes said.
During an interview with the victim, police learned that two male juveniles, both of whom were known by the victim, came to his home. While talking with the alleged victim, one of the suspects held what appeared to be a handgun to the victim’s head and demanded all of the money he had, Semmes said.
The victim claimed the two suspects were aware that he had recently been paid and had about $400 in cash on him, Semmes said.
The victim told police that both of the suspects were wearing ankle monitoring bracelets. Using that information, officers went to the location where one of the juveniles lived and spoke to his grandmother, who told police the boys were in the back yard, Semmes said.
When officers approached the area, they saw both of the juveniles running toward them, leaving police to draw their service weapons to secure the suspects, Semmes said. During a search of the home police found a silver Airsoft pistol believed to have been used in the robbery.
Both juveniles were taken to the Jennings Police Department and interviewed before being taken to a juvenile holding facility in Lafayette.
